OM and the perfect storm

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Dominic Milano conducted a lengthy, in-depth interview with me recently. His article just posted to apps4phones.com.

Here’s a link to the article.

Excerpt: “The biggest thing with the iPhone is the distribution model that Apple’s got set up. That’s really the game-changer here. Developers have been so strung out by publishers and horrible distribution models. It’s just been a nightmare. Even the casual games market has had a big problem selling through traditional channels and online. Having a unified distribution model where Apple manages everything combined with a platform that’s also unified where Apple says “this is the hardware, this is the spec, it’s not going to diverge from this….” The combination of those two things is the perfect storm that’s making the market turn white-hot.”

Oceanhouse Media launches 9 new apps!

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Oceanhouse Media is excited to announce that we have landed the exclusive rights to bring Hay House Publishers’ line-up of self empowerment authors to the iPhone.

This is a deal that we have had in the works for months. Even after it was signed, we decided to hold on the news until we had apps available. (Talk about a lesson in patience.) Today, we are happy to announce that we have 9 fantastic apps to share with the world. We also have added a new “Products” section to our website, an email newsletter, a new YouTube video, a big PR push, etc… Yes, we have been very, very busy.

Check out the products here. Rate them on the App Store. As always, let us know what you think.

Anticipation…

Friday, June 5th, 2009

The last few weeks have provided an excellent opportunity to practice “living in the present” rather than living in the future. Two weeks ago, we submitted the first of nine new apps to Apple. By the end of Memorial Day weekend, all nine apps were at Apple awaiting approval.

Then the waiting began. Apps used to take 7 days to get approval. We’ve heard that the approval process has slowed to 11 days. We are currently at 14 days, and still waiting. To be fair, Apple did ask for a minor tweak to a few of our apps (a button graphic swap-out), but they’ve had that new build for a few days now. As of this morning, we are still waiting…

Here’s hoping that all goes smoothly and that we’ll be able to launch our apps next week. In the meantime, I’m going to focus on what needs to get done right now. In the present, there is plenty of work to do!
